Duties Description DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: The Associate Psychologist will provide a full range of evidenced-informed psychological services, providing such services at the Article 16 clinic. These services will include assessment, counseling, behavioral intervention, and educational services for the general public and for individuals who reside in certified settings. The ability to work with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities is a key factor for this unique position. The associate psychologist will interface with other clinic departments including medical, psychiatry, occupational/physical/speech therapies, nursing, social work, and nutrition as needed to provide well rounded services.The duties include but are not limited to the following: • Maintain knowledge and understanding of OPWDD policies and procedures including Article 16 regulations. Review ADM’s, Protocols, Policies and Procedures as released and ensure implementation. • Conduct various psychological assessments including but not limited to intelligence, adaptive behavior, educational, and risk include suicide and forensic assessments• Provide counseling services as needed, including group and individual through the Article 16 clinic• Foster effective collaboration and communication with individuals, families, and Care Coordination Organizations• Attend licensed psychologist meetings • Provide clinical supervision to master’s level psychologists• Attend and participate in psychology department meetings• Have proficient computer skills including use of databases, spreadsheets, and Microsoft products such as Word, TEAMS, and SharePoint. • Document psychology services in the Electronic Health Record• Travel/site visits to programs and clinics may be required• Additional tasks/duties/projects as assigned. The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications A doctoral degree in a clinical field of psychology (see notes below); AND EITHER a one-year, full-time pre-doctoral clinical internship OR one year of psychology experience in a clinical setting, under the supervision of a licensed psychologist. You must demonstrate on your application how you meet this qualification.Notes: Non-qualifying degree majors include, but are not limited to the following: education, educational psychology, transpersonal psychology, educational counseling, guidance counseling, experimental psychology, industrial psychology, psychometrics, organizational psychology, student and personnel services, mental health counseling, pastoral psychology, human relations, etc.Psychology experience in a clinical setting is considered to be any direct care experience with individuals, families, or groups in a hospital, clinic, facility, private practice, or correctional setting under the supervision of a Licensed Psychologist. Qualifying experience must primarily include performing psychological evaluations or assessment tests, psychological diagnostic testing, developing psychological treatment plans, providing psychological counseling and treatment in one or more of the following areas: mental and/or emotional disorders, developmental disabilities, alcoholism, addictions, sex offender assessment and treatment, or forensic mental health.The following experience is NOT considered qualifying: Experience in administration, administrative services, administrative oversight, training, special education, behavior specialist, habilitation specialist, project management, research, or primarily supervisory experience. Other non-qualifying experience includes, but is not limited to, experience in experimental psychology, research psychology, industrial psychology, organizational psychology, utilization review, guidance counseling, etc.

HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status.
