PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER II - NORTH COAST REDWOODS DISTRICT / EEL RIVER SECTOR / HUMBOLDT REDWOODS STATE PARK

The reporting location is 17119 Avenue of the Giants, Weott, CA 95571. Under the direction of the Park Maintenance Supervisor, the Park Maintenance Worker II (PMW II) , the Park Maintenance Worker II will perform a variety of semiskilled and skilled maintenance tasks essential for the upkeep of park facilities, structures, roads, and grounds. Conduct facilities maintenance, including repairs to buildings, structures, roads, parking lots, campgrounds, trails, and interpretive displays. Operate and maintain various types of power equipment and vehicles required for maintenance tasks, ensuring their safe and proper functioning. Supervise and lead crews in maintenance projects, coordinating with the Park Maintenance Supervisor as needed. Assist in resource protection efforts, including cooperation with fire prevention programs and tree  felling activities.Perform administrative tasks such as budgeting, expenditure tracking, inventory management, and report generation. Ensure compliance with building codes, ADA regulations, and all relevant safety and environmental standards.

The incumbent's work will be Monday through Friday from 7:30AM – 4:00PM.

Training and development assignments may be considered.


This position requires a grade 1 water treatment license (T1).

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.


Per California Code of Regulations (CCR) 599.961 , this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing. It should be noted that testing is not mandatory, but is allowed to be conducted only if and when there is a determination of reasonable suspicion as defined in CCR 599.962 .


State housing maybe required.  Special Requirement/Condition of Employment: Depending on the assigned location, the incumbent may be required to occupy state-owned housing to meet operational needs, or may be offered state-owned housing if available. Housing assignments will be determined in accordance with Department policy, operational priorities, and applicable labor agreements. This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU 12/13 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.

Working Conditions

Work Environment includes outdoor environment, characterized cold and heat, frequent winds, and insects.  Work in hazardous conditions (i.e. raw sewage, chemicals, garbage, hypodermic needles, rodents, broken glass, driving on loose gravel and off road, operate vehicles off road and equipment, etc.). Work environment may expose incumbent to noise, dust, fumes, hot and cold temperatures, and unpleasant odors. Work at elevated heights, on or near machinery and heavy equipment or traffic.

Physical Abilities: Ability to perform strenuous manual labor (i.e. digging trenching, boring, lifting, carrying, loading etc.)  Requires repetitive movements of heavy objects. Ability to walk across uneven terrain, loose gravel in both uphill and downhill conditions to perform the duties of the job. Stand for long periods of time, (in excess of 2 hours) to perform the duties associated with the job.
