Job Description

Ark is building the world’s highest-fidelity bioprocess simulation software to help life-saving therapies reach patients faster. By democratizing complex AI and multi-physics models in an intuitive software interface, we are ushering in a new era of digital bioprocessing.

With Ark, scientists can replace weeks-long, costly ($10K–$1M+) bioreactor experiments with simulations that run in seconds. This enables researchers to explore thousands more scenarios, accelerate time to market, and ensure more medical breakthroughs make it from the lab to the world.

We are looking for a UI-focused UX/UI Designer to lead the visual design of our customer-facing scientific software. This role is ideal for a designer who thrives in deep technical domains, enjoys strong ownership and autonomy, and is energized by working directly with scientists and software engineers to bring transformative medicines to patients faster.

About the Role

As Ark’s sole designer, you will shape the look, feel, and interaction patterns of our core product. You’ll work directly with the CEO, scientists, and software engineers to translate complex scientific workflows into intuitive interfaces. The focus is predominantly UI design, with a strong emphasis on clarity, usability, and visual communication for data-heavy applications.

You’ll own and evolve our existing design system and partner with engineering to ensure high-quality implementation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end UI design for Ark’s customer-facing scientific software
  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and scientific teams to translate technical requirements into clear, elegant interfaces
  • Maintain and evolve Ark’s design system, ensuring consistency across the product
  • Create high-fidelity mockups, interaction patterns, and visual components in Figma
  • Work with engineers to ensure high-quality front-end implementation; ability to contribute to front-end code (e.g., React) is a major plus
  • Support user research activities (journey mapping, usability testing, feedback sessions)
  • Bring clarity and cohesiveness to complex data-heavy workflows and scientific visualizations

About You
  • 3+ years of professional experience in product, interaction, or UI/UX design for web-based products (ideally SaaS, in-house)
  • Deep proficiency in Figma; experience building prototypes that are interactive and responsive
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product design ownership and UI excellence, ideally for data-heavy or technical products (DataViz is a plus)
  • Ability to adhere to design guidelines and maintain a unified visual style across the entire product
  • Ability to operate independently as the company’s only designer
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment with high ownership and autonomy
  • Bonus: Experience with front-end development, especially React

Position

Type: Full-time, exempt

Location: Cambridge, MA (in-person Monday–Thursday)

Benefits: Health, dental, and vision coverage; holiday and vacation time; 401k matching; equity options; and opportunities for career growth and ownership as Ark scales.
